Mom's Apple Pie

This is my mom's apple pie recipe that she makes every Thanksgiving.



Ingredients

Filling Ingredients

  1. 7 Cups apples cut up

    9 cups if making deep dish
    12 cups for a cheese cake pan
    You want a mix of apples (⅓ each)
    Granny Smith for tart and firm
    Roma or Macintosh for sweet and soft
    Braeburn or other for sweet tart firm
    If you are making the pie with cranberries, then do ⅔ sweet apples and ⅓ tart granny smith apples.
    The () portions are for cheese cake size.

  2. 2 tablespoons flour (3 tablespoon)

  3. 2 teaspoons cinnamon (1 tablespoon)

  4. 1 cup sugar (1 ½ cup)

    ⅓ cup extra sugar if adding cranberries

  5. 1 tablespoon lemon juice (3 tablespoon)

  6. 1 tablespoon butter, cubed (2 tablespoon)

  7. Pie Crust

    If you are using a 10" cheese cake pan you will need two pie crusts, split ⅔ bottom crust and ⅓ top crust

Topping Ingredients

  1. ½ cup flour

  2. ½ cup sugar

  3. ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

  4. 4 tablespoons cold butter, cut into ¼ inch pieces

Directions

  1. Mix everything except the butter

  2. Add to crust and dot top of pie with butter

  3. Mix topping in bowl and pour over top of pie evenly

  4. Bake at 325 for 1 ½ hours

    Bake for the first 15 minutes at 425 for better crust, then drop back to 325.
